Overview
Scaleway is a French cloud provider, and Serverless Containers is its answer to Google Cloud Run: give it a Docker image and it runs, scales and exposes it over HTTPS. Unlike most European clouds, it has a recurring free quota. Every account gets 400,000 GB-s of memory and 200,000 vCPU-s each month, and traffic in and out is free.
That quota goes a long way for a small container that scales to zero. When nobody calls it, it costs nothing. When requests arrive, Scaleway starts an instance, and the first request pays a cold-start delay. You can keep one instance warm, but it then draws on the quota all month.
There is no persistent disk, so keep state in a managed database or object storage. Usage above the free quota is billed automatically, so set a billing alert. For teams that need data to stay in the EU, Scalewayβs Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw regions are the main reason to choose it over US-based serverless platforms.

Checked 2026-11-01Pros
- βRecurring monthly free quota, not a one-time trial
- βRuns any Docker image, not only supported runtimes
- βData stays in EU regions under a French provider
- βNo charge for ingress or egress traffic
Cons
- βScales to zero when idle, so the first request can be slow
- βUsage above the quota is billed automatically
- βNo persistent disk; store state in a managed database or object storage
- βFree quota is per account, shared across all containers
Best for
- βSmall APIs and webhooks that must run in the EU
- βContainerized side projects with spiky or low traffic
- βTeams moving from Cloud Run or Fly.io to a European provider

Getting started
- 1 Create a Scaleway account and a project
- 2 Push your image to the Scaleway Container Registry or use a public image
- 3 Create a Serverless Containers namespace in Paris, Amsterdam or Warsaw
- 4 Deploy the container with its port, memory and environment variables
- 5 Set a billing alert so usage above the free quota does not surprise you

FAQ
Each account gets 400,000 GB-s of memory and 200,000 vCPU-s per month for free. Usage above that is billed per second, and ingress and egress traffic are free.
Containers can scale to zero when they receive no traffic, which keeps them inside the free quota but adds a cold start on the next request. You can set a minimum scale to keep one instance warm, which uses quota.
Serverless Containers run in Scaleway's Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw regions, all inside the EU.
